Personal Info
Hobbies:
Outside the gym,
my newest hobby is wake boarding! But, in my
spare time, I like attending Trinity Church, enjoy
developing healthy recipes in the kitchen, and
spending time with my dogs Dixie (a boxer) & Devo (my American Bulldog).
I also like to kayak in Lake Havasu & spend time with my boyfriend Tim
while tackling any challenge that
comes my way!
Personal Information
So it Begins…
I was born in Cape Breton, Nova Scotia, Canada.
I grew up in a small town with my 5 other
siblings (4 sisters and 1 brother) along with a
great mom and dad. So, I am officially a “Caper”
to those Canuks in the “know”. Nova Scotia is an
awesome place to grow up if you love the
outdoors, the crazy weather and small town life.
Growing up I was active in tons of outdoor
activities, but my main enjoyment was my early
morning workouts I bumbled through at a small
gym located in a motel in Port Hawkesbury during
high school. After graduating, I moved to Truro,
Nova Scotia where I graduated from the Nova
Scotia Teachers College with a Bachelor of Arts
in Education. Soon after, I decided to follow my
older sister Phyllis, and move to California to
pursue my teaching career.
California Dreamin…
After moving to San Bernardino, Ca to teach
special education at a junior high, I continued
to work out and found myself every weekend at
some type of fitness event. Whether it was a
Fitness America, NPC, ESPN Fitness, I was there.
It was in early 2000, a local IFBB pro
approached me and asked if I competed. With a
lot of encouragement, he convinced me to give a
contest a try. Totally clueless, other than my
friend Eddie doing my diet, I found a choreographer, made a costume and entered the
2000 NPC Los Angeles Fitness Championships.
After 6 months of dieting, I entered at waif 104
lbs. Much to my surprise, I won, beating out 7
other great competitors (one trained by Kelly
Ryan) who went on the following month to win the
USA championships and earn a pro card. From that
moment, I was hooked!
A Competitor is Born…
Two years later, I couldn’t stifle my need to
compete any longer. While completing my Masters
Degree in Mild/Moderate Special Education at Cal
State, San Bernardino, I entered a string of
contests starting in 2002, placing 1st in every
single one. In 2004, I decided to step out of my
comfort zone of the NPC California region and
compete at a national level. Because I am a
Canadian citizen, my only national competitive
option was in Canada. Since that time, I have
focused my energies on the only national contest
my country hosts. I’ve had to qualify twice in
my home province of Nova Scotia, winning both
the overall fitness in 2004 and the overall
figure in 2006. My national record, while
noteworthy (two 2nd place and two third place
finishes in both fitness and figure) still
evades my ultimate goal of a first place finish
in my class and a chance of competing for a
coveted IFBB pro card. At present, I am
preparing for a return to the national stage in
August 2009 in British Columbia, Canada and
possibly the North Americans in Columbus, Ohio
in early September 2009.
Staying Fit and
Loving It…
I am competitive by nature. Anything that can be
turned into a contest, especially a physical
one, I want to win!! Whether it is a push up
contest in Glamis, a running race, pull ups with
the marines, a plank contest at a New Years Eve
party, I am right in the middle of it! Living in
Southern California lends itself to a lot of
outdoor exercise opportunities, so I prefer to
be outside whenever possible. I run with my two
dogs, teach outdoor Boot Camps to clients, or
find great outdoor exercise opportunities at our
favorite vacation spot, Lake Havasu, Arizona.
Despite all my enjoyable fitness activities, the
staple and passion of my physical activity is
and will always be heavy and aggressive free
weight training. There is something very
invigorating about smashing iron together in the
gym…not to mention lifting more of it than half
of the guys in the weight room is pretty fun
too!
And Now What?
As far as competition, until my back pain
overpowers my drive, and I’m a competitive
element on stage, I’ll keep coming back. My
future goals are simple; to continue to call my
“passion” a job and to motivate others, that
with hard work and dedication, anything is
possible.
Best thing that anyone ever said to me…
Many years ago, I was complaining about my
weight and whining about being “fat”; something
a lot of women tend to do. A very good friend
looked me right in the eye and yelled! “THEN DO
SOMETHING ABOUT IT!”. I’ve always remembered
that. The only person with the power to change
you, is YOU. This comment would prove to be very
powerful over the years. I realized if you are
not happy with yourself, your life situation or
direction, only YOU can change it. You control
your physical well-being, your mental
well-being, and your destiny. It’s all your
fault or your victory- You decide. If you aren’t
happy, Change it! I always encourage my clients
to take ownership of their issues, and then
teach them the tricks of the trade so they can
apply new and healthy lifestyle lessons to
themselves!
Thanks for visiting my site…
My name is Tracey MacDonald. I’m a personal
trainer/ nutritionist and nationally ranked
fitness/figure competitor. I believe if I do
this for a living, I better practice what I
preach. If I don’t, why should my clients? My
fitness passion has turned into my living. I’ve
built my personal training business on one
ideal:: Treat everyone as individuals. There is
NO one cookie cutter plan that works for all. I
don’t want to be treated like everyone else when
it comes to my health, and I’m sure you don’t
either.
